Maya Ellis is a rising junior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) working towards a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. After obtaining her B.S. Maya is considering pursuing an M.S. in Systems Engineering. Up until now, Maya has not been exposed to the renewable energy industry. Renewable energy and working with solar was one of three areas she was interested in as she began studying at WPI. The others being Embedded Computing & Firmware and Communication & Networks. This summer, Maya is also completing a research project with WPI in Wireless Networks as she carries out her internship with Zapotec.

While at Zapotec, Maya would like to gain experience and knowledge regarding renewable energy, specifically solar. Maya is particularly interested in solar energy due to its limitless energy capabilities and minimal production of greenhouse gases. She feels hopeful for Earth’s future because solar energy is readily available and a never-ending energy source that reaches all corners of the world. Maya believes solar energy is key in moving away from fossil fuels and greenhouse gases.

Maya’s coursework has never consisted of solar energy or what goes into harnessing the power of the sun for residential or commercial use. For this reason, while at Zapotec, Maya aims to grasp the systematic concepts that go into designing, producing, and maintaining a Solar PV system. Additionally, by the end of the summer, she hopes to provide more knowledge for the Zapotec team through her research of bifacial modules.

Welcome Maya, Zapotec is happy to have you working with us this summer!
