The President of Zapotec Energy, Paul Lyons, will be moderating a session on PV System Fire Safety and Lightning Protection at the PV America conference this June. The session’s experienced speakers will discuss the causes of PV system fires, field techniques that can identify problems before they occur, and design and equipment methods that prevent fires from occurring. The session will also focus on the fire classification tests and PV module type requirements most recently adopted by UL 1703, the Standard for Safety of Flat-Plate Photovoltaic Modules and Panels.
The speakers at this session include:
- Bill Brooks, widely known for his authorship of technical manuals for the PV industry as well as his work on technical review committees for the National Electrical Code on photovoltaics and for the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) on utility interconnection standards.
- Christopher Flueckiger, Primary Engineer for renewable energy at Underwriters Laboratories (UL), technical representative to the Standard Technical Panel (STP) covering UL 1703
- Mark Morgan, Instructor and President of Board of Directors for the Midwest Renewable Energy Association
