Despite cold temperatures and snowy weather, the Zapotec team was able to complete the design and installation of two identical rooftop solar PV systems at the Walden Park Apartments in Cambridge, MA. Contracted by Equity Residential of Chicago, IL, Zapotec Energy finished the solar PV systems on the Walden Street property in February 2017. Zapotec is on track to complete three other solar projects for Equity Residential within the next few months in Waltham, MA.

The solar energy systems are each designed to produce 28.6 kW of electricity at peak capacity. Together, the systems are expected to generate 68,120 kWh of electricity each year. “As far as large capital projects go, this one was smooth and relatively simple,” says Jeremy Hoegemann, the Community Manager at Walden Park. “My residents are excited to help our environment in the Cambridge area and shrink our property’s carbon footprint.”

During the installation process, Zapotec teamed up with Andy Belcastro and his crew from Belcastro Electric LLC, an electrical contracting company headquartered in Mendon, MA.  Each of the two systems includes 88 Hanwha Q-Cell PV modules and two Fronius inverters held together by a self-ballasted racking system from Aerocompact. The solar PV systems at 205 and 225 Walden Street were “mechanically complete” before the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) SREC II Program deadline on January 8, which means the system owner has qualified for the full SREC II factor.
