Last month, Zapotec Energy finished the fourth solar photovoltaic (PV) system in the recent series of projects contracted by Equity Residential, a real estate and building management company based in Chicago, IL. The 66 kW solar PV system was installed on the roof of Cronin’s Landing, an apartment building located at 25 Crescent Street in Waltham, MA. The system is expected to produce 79,500 kWh of electricity during its first year of operation.

Similarly to the PV system at Longview Place Apartments, the system at Cronin’s Landing is made up of 203 (325W) Hanwha Q-Cell PV modules, three SolarEdge inverters and a customized roof-mounted racking system from SunModo Corp. Again, Zapotec’s engineers were joined by a team from Invaleon Technologies Corp., the electrical subcontractor, and Tecta America, a commercial roofing company, to complete the installation.

“We are pleased to have partnered with Zapotec Energy for the design-build of a recent series of solar PV projects at three of our Boston area communities,” says Katherine Elliot, Director of Investments and Sustainability for Equity Residential. “Zapotec was easy to work with and their knowledge and experience enabled us to navigate the Boston solar PV market.”

As a corporation, Equity Residential has set a number of sustainability goals to help reduce its carbon footprint, including reducing the company’s overall energy consumption by 15 percent of 2011 levels by 2021. By the end of 2016, Equity Residential was able to claim 1.25 MW of installed solar PV capacity, with projects still in the queue across the country. “Completing these installations [in Massachusetts] is consistent with our aggressive commitment to sustainability, and helps us achieve our goal to invest in clean and renewable energy technologies,” added Elliot.
